César Augusto Correia de Sequeira was born in Peso da Régua, Portugal, in 1943. On graduation in Chemical Engineering from the Technical University of Lisbon in 1968 (7-year course) he was invited to join the staff of Instituto Superior Técnico as Lecturer (“assistente”). One year later he was invited to serve as Reader (“regente”) of Electrochemistry, Electrometallurgy and Electrothermy (one year course), for the 6 th year students of chemical and electrotechnical engineering. In 1971 he started high temperature chemistry research in the Nuffield Research Group at Imperial College, obtaining a DIC (Diploma of Imperial College) in 1972 and a PhD from London University in October 1974. In the same year he returned to Lisbon and joined the University teaching staff, where he has been teaching and supervising research (at undergraduate, MSc and PhD levels) for more than 50 years. In 1976, jointly with the Dean of the University of Lisbon, he established the CECUL (Centre of Electrochemistry and Kinetics of the University of Lisbon). He spent one year (1982) with the Materials Development Division of the Atomic Research Establishment (Harwell, U.K.), where he performed a fruitful research work on the development of all solid-state polymer-based lithium cells. He spent another year (1985-86) at the University of Utah, where he joined the research group of Prof. J. Janata on ion selective field effect transistors. He was also Invited Professor at UMIST (UK), Univ. of Reading (UK), Univ. of Iserlohn (Germany), and Univ. of Arizona (USA). He has directed several international projects on electrochemistry of hot corrosion, microbial corrosion, metal extraction, conducting polymers, energy storage and conversion. Most of these projects were financed by the European Union. He is author/co-author of over 270 technical papers and 239 conference proceedings, editor/co-editor of 15 books and author of a recent book, author/co-author of 24 book chapters, a frequent lecturer or panelist at scientific meetings, and is a member of several renowned international societies, being a Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, IOM3, U.K., a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (U.K.), and Active Member (now Emeritus Member) of the Electrochemical Society (U.S.A.). He is also serving as a reviewer for many scientific Journals. He has also acted as a consultant for several medium-sized companies. Recently, he left CeFEMA (Center of Physics and Engineering of Advanced Materials), where he was coordinating the Materials Electrochemistry Group (MEG-IST, University of Lisbon).

Thomas J. Webster’s (H index: 128) degrees are in chemical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh (B.S., 1995; USA) and in biomedical engineering from RPI (Ph.D., 2000; USA). He has formed over a dozen companies who have numerous FDA approved medical products currently improving human health in over 30,000 patients. His technology is also being used in commercial products to improve sustainability and renewable energy. He is currently helping those companies and serves as a professor at Brown University, Saveetha University, Hebei University of Technology, UFPI, and others. Dr. Webster has numerous awards including: 2020, World Top 2% Scientist by Citations (PLOS); 2020, SCOPUS Highly Cited Research (Top 1% Materials Science and Mixed Fields); 2021, Clarivate Top 0.1% Most Influential Researchers (Pharmacology and Toxicology); 2022, Best Materials Science Scientist by Citations (Research.com); and is a fellow of over 8 societies. Dr. Mohamed Khayet is director of the University Complutense of Madrid (UCM) Research Group “Membranes and Renewable Energies (MER)” and Professor (Applied Physics Area) at the Faculty of Physical Sciences (UCM) (Department of Structure of Matter, Thermal Physics and Electronics). He got his Ph.D. (1997) in Physical Sciences and he realized various research stays in international institutions (Industrial Membrane Research Institute in Ottawa, Canada; Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technology in Warsaw, Poland; Centre for Clean Water Technologies at the University of Nottingham in UK; Singapore Membrane Technology Centre and Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, Yale University in New Haven, USA; University of California Berkeley in USA, etc.). Among other grants, he got the Fulbright Grant (2019). He is an expert in the field of membrane science, nanotechnology and renewable energies. He has coordinated various national and international projects funded by different institutions (European Union, Middle East Desalination Research Centre, Spanish Ministries; Companies such as Abengoa, etc.) on membranes and modules engineering for different separation processes. He published over 200 papers in international journals, filed 6 International Patents, published 5 books and various book chapters in the field of membrane science and related technology. Among other recognitions, he received the Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz International Prize for Water (PSIPW) in 2012. He edited various special issues in international journals such as Desalination, Polymers and Membranes. He acted as Editor of the international Journal “Desalination” (2018-2022) and served as associated editor of different journals. Paulo C. DE MORAIS (H-60), PhD, was full Professor of Physics at the University of Brasilia (UnB) – Brazil up to 2013, Appointed as UnB’s Emeritus Professor (2014), Appointed as Guest Professor of Huazhong University of Science and Technology– China (2011), Visiting Professor at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) – China (2012-2015), Appointed as Distinguished Professor at Anhui University (AHU) – China (2016-2019), Appointed as Full Professor at Catholic University of Brasília (UCB) – Brazil (2018), Appointed as CNPq-1A Research Fellowship since 2010. 2007 Master Research Prize from UnB, 2008-member of the European ERA NET Nanoscience Committee, Member of the IEEE-Magnetic Society Technical Committee, Senior Member of the IEEE Society, 2012 China’s 1000 Foreign Expert Recipient, and 2012 Academic Excellence Award from Brazilian Professor’s Union. He has served as referee for more than 50 technical journals, takes part of the Editorial Board of more than 15 technical journals and has conducted research on nanomaterials for over 40 years. He has delivered about 190 Invited Talks all over the World. He is known for his research in preparation, characterization and applications of nanosized materials (magnetic fluid, magnetoliposome, magnetic nanoemulsion, magnetic nanocapsule, magnetic nanofilm, magnetic nanocomposite, nanosized semiconductors, polymeric dots, carbon dots, and graphene quantum dots). With more than500 published papers in peer reviewed journals, more than13,000 citations, and 16 patents, He has appeared in recent World ranking of top scientists, such as 2020-Stanford, 2022-Research.com, 2023-AD Scientific Index, 2023-Research.com, and 2024-Elsevier.

Professor Vladimir G. Chigrinov is Professor of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology since 1999. He is an Expert in Flat Panel Technology in Russia, recognized by the World Technology Evaluation Centre, 1994, and SID Fellow since 2008. He is an author of 6 books, 31 reviews and book chapters, about 333 journal papers, more than 718 Conference presentations, and 121 patents and patent applications including 50 US patents in the field of liquid crystals since 1974. He got Excellent Research Award of HKUST School of Engineering in 2012. Since 2018 until 2020 he works as Professor in the School of Physics and Optoelectronics Engineering in Foshan University, Foshan, China. 2020-2024 Vice President of Fellow of Institute of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (IDSAI) Since 2021 distinguished Fellow of Institute of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.

Ana Isabel is Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutics, Biopharmacy and Pharmacokinetics at Complutense University of Madrid. She has participated in 21 research projects funded by Spanish public institutions, and by pharmaceutical and related companies (7 of them as principal investigator). She is the author of 34 peer review articles and 6 book chapters. She has participated in 43 scientific conferences, 3 of them as invited speaker. Her PhD thesis has been awarded with the “Doctorate Extraordinary Award 2019” from the Faculty of Pharmacy of Complutense University and the “Juan Abello I” prize from the Doctor Academy of Spain. She also received “Juan Abello 2019 prize” of the Spanish Royal Academy of Pharmacy for her scientific research. She is evaluator of research projects of institutions in Poland and member of the board of directors of the Spanish Society of Industrial and Galenic Pharmacy. She has done several predoctoral and postdoctoral research stages (Italy, Switzerland, Finland, and Greece). Her research group is focused on the development, optimization, and preclinical evaluation of novel controlled drug delivery systems (with a special focus on implants, micro and nanoparticles) for the treatment of cancer, inflammatory and infectious diseases.
